Ongoing experimental activities
Zootechnical division
Within the framework of the 2014–2020 RDP: MEASURE 16 – COOPERATION, TYPE OF OPERATION 16.1.1, the project titled
"Genetic improvement of replacement heifers in the Italian Pezzata Rossa breed to increase animal welfare, and economic and environmental sustainability in dairy farming (GenPRI)" is currently underway, under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Stradaioli.
The project involves 10 partners, including ANAPRI and 9 livestock farmers from the region.
Its goal is to implement selective embryo transfer programs, offering the possibility to recover genetic material from end-of-career donor cows housed at the Pagnacco Section.
"The Pezzata Rossa breed in Friuli Venezia Giulia: process and product innovation to develop a high-quality meat supply chain"
refers to research activities focused on the Italian Pezzata Rossa (PRI) cattle breed, partially carried out under the measure of the Rural Development Programme of Friuli Venezia Giulia 2014–2020, aimed at the creation of hubs or networks for the development of business and supply chain innovation projects.
The program included 25 regional partners—farmers and entrepreneurs—coordinated by PRI-Servizi, as well as the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Animal Sciences, which conducted experiments aimed at improving the dietary quality of products derived from this breed, native to Friuli.
The lead partner of the project is Prof. Edi Piasentier, professor of the degree program in Animal Husbandry and Welfare.
Aquaculture
The research projects, funded by banking foundations (Ager 2–Sushin, Nutrifish) and the European Union (Aquaexcel2010ChiFISH, ERANet.COFASPA MarinAlgae4aqua, Interreg ITA–CRO, AdriaAquaNet), aim to test increasingly sustainable feed solutions for aquaculture.
In addition, new facilities will help strengthen the already well-established technical and scientific collaboration with industry stakeholders, relevant local authorities in the field of aquaculture, and more broadly with all operators in the sector.
