Wildlife rehabilitation

The “Research and Coordination Center for Wildlife Rescue” (established by the University of Udine within the University farm Servadei the 4th of August, 2017) continues to pursue its main goals with renewed efficiency following recent renovations. These goals include: creating a network among the various entities involved in the rescue and management of wildlife throughout the region; monitoring the status and population trends of wild fauna; developing a database to digitalize data concerning injured or deceased wild animals; providing scientific and technical support to regional wildlife rescue centers (CRAS); offering facilities, equipment, and scientific expertise for the care and rehabilitation of species of particular biological interest, such as large carnivores and birds of prey, as demonstrated by the recent release of the first radio-collared golden jackal.

It promotes and coordinates educational and specialized initiatives, including advanced training, refresher courses, professional development, and specialization programs targeting all professionals in the field.

A notable example was the course on the use of the remote anesthesia rifle, held between 2018 and 2019, specifically designed for the Forestry Service of Tarvisio.

These activities aim to foster a responsible and informed approach to wildlife management, promoting best practices for the recovery and reintegration of animals into their natural habitats.
