Plant protection

Entomology

The agricultural company carries out experimental activities on:

  • bees and their role in the pollination of cultivated species;

  • the monitoring of harmful and beneficial insects, e.g., codling moth (Cydia pomonella), oriental fruit moth (Cydia molesta), European grapevine moth and vine moth (Lobesia botrana and Eupoecilia ambiguella), green leafhopper (Empoasca vitis), red spider mite (Panonychus ulmi), with the aim of controlling population dynamics and crop damage;

  • the attractiveness of naturally-derived compounds to predatory lacewings (e.g., Chrysoperla carnea).

Plant pathology

Pathologists and virologists from the University of Udine study the 'recovery' of species affected by viruses and phytoplasmas, in a confined place.

'Recovery' is a phenomenon whereby diseased plants, especially those affected by viruses and phytoplasmas, are able to recover a situation of apparent normality (health), that is maintained by the original plant and its descendants obtained by vegetative multiplication.
