The livestock raised at the Servadei consists of small groups of animals, also useful for student training and practical exercises, particularly for those enrolled in the Bachelor's degree in Animal Breeding and Health, and the Master's degree in Animal Breeding and Welfare. The animals include: a flock of Carsolina sheep, two horses, a herd of fallow deer, and a cattle herd composed of Pezzata Rossa Italiana, Marchigiana breeds, and Limousine–Pezzata Rossa crosses.
The farming system is semi-extensive: the animals have access to shelters (the barn, the sheepfold, and the horse shed) at night and during adverse weather conditions, but are normally kept on pasture in large fenced areas designated for the different species.
The livestock vocation that has always characterized the Pagnacco section is expressed through research projects, training activities, and technology transfer initiatives in support of regional agriculture, in collaboration with farmers, their associations, ERSA, and the Regional Administration. The Pagnacco Section of the Servadei Agricultural farm is a research center dedicated to the Pezzata Rossa Italiana (Pezzata Rossa Italiana, PRI) cattle breed. Its activities are also developed within the framework of the Rural Development Program of Friuli Venezia Giulia 2014–2020, aimed at creating hubs or networks for the development of farm and supply chain innovation projects. The program involved 24 regional partners, including farmers and entrepreneurs coordinated by PRI-Servizi,and also included the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Animal Sciences, which carried out targeted experiments to improve the dietary quality of products from this native Friulian breed.
