The farm has a series of lysimetric batteries used to study the nutrients and water cycle in annual and arboreal species.
Lysimeters are containers (metal, fiberglass, etc.) of different dimensions that delimit a portion of undisturbed land. In this way, controlled environments are obtained in field conditions, in which continuous monitoring and sampling of percolation water is possible. This allows to carry out studies about the quality of water in relation to fertilization, plant protection products and various pollutants.
Originally created for studying water balance and evapotranspiration formulations, lysimeters have recently taken on considerable importance in environmental pollution studies.
The farm has various construction typologies, from the simplest “drainage” to the more sophisticated “weighing” ones, in which weight variations are continuously monitored by computerized systems; the latter are equipped with an automatic covering system to exclude rain.
